The radio is one of the most important medium through which new music is introduced to the public. Bands and recording artist cannot get the exposure that they need to gain mass popularity without their music and songs being played on the radio. Traditionally, radio stations have not had to pay the recording artists and record labels for the sounds that they air. Instead only the songwriters and publishers got paid.
All of this could change according to Roger N. Behle, a Los Angeles music copyright attorney, who has been in the recording industry for most of his life, with the introduction of the Fair Play Fair Pay Act of 2015 (FPFPA).
